There are so many beautiful, successful plus size women out there who deserve our praise and our applause for their courage. I can’t imagine what these women have gone through to become the icons they are. I just want to name a few of them so we can all appreciate these famous plus size women,

Kathy Bates

Kathy Bates is probably best known for her Hollywood breakthrough performance in the movie Misery, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress. But I know her best for her role in the movie Titanic as the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Ms. Bates is a breast cancer and ovarian cancer survivor, and an activist in human rights issues and a spokesperson for those with chronic lymphatic disease.

Queen Latifah

If you are talking about women who have done it all, Queen Latifah is the one. She debuted as a hip hop singer and rapper, has been in television and movies, and has also been a producer. And she’s won prestigious awards for most of her occupations, including a Grammy and a Golden Globe. She has done some modeling, and I’ve seen her in health insurance commercials recently. She is tall and beautiful, and a great advocate for women of color.

Rebel Wilson

Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson is an acclaimed Australian actress and comedian, who has also done well in the US. She is best known for her role as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect movie series. What I like best about Rebel is, first off, she’s beautiful, and second off, her comedic responses to fat shamers. Here are a few of her best one-liners:

“Didn’t go to the gym today, but … the cashier’s name at McDonald’s was Jim. Sooo. Same thing.”

“I never want to be too unhealthy though, so even though I like desserts (clearly), I still try to exercise. E.G. walk to the shop to get ice-cream.”

“I stay fat because it just wouldn’t be fair to all the thin people if I were this good-looking, intelligent, funny, and thin. It’s a public service really.”

Adele

Adele is a British singer-songwriter. Her music is amazing because of her beautiful voice range. She has a way of putting emotion into her voice and writes songs that go perfectly with her talent and abilities. In 2012, Adele released “Skyfall”, which she co-wrote and recorded for the James Bond film of the same name. The song won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. This is just one example of her amazing talent.  Adele is a mother and an advocate of women’s rights. She is a supporter of the LGBTQ community and a major contributor to MusiCares, a charity organization founded by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for musicians in need.

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy is an award-winning American actress, comedian, writer, producer, and fashion designer. She is best known for her comedy series Molly & Mike that played on CBS from 2010 to 2016. She is incredibly funny, and perhaps her funniest role was on Saturday Night Live when she played White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. She is a mom of two girls, like myself, and her fashion designs are pretty amazing. She says “People don’t stop at size 12. I feel like there’s a big thing missing where you can’t dress to your mood above a certain number.”  I am not sure if Melissa is a plus size any longer, because I know she has lost a lot of weight.  But I will always remember her style as a plus size girl, and will love her for it.  She is beautiful at any size.

Tess Holliday

Ryann Maegen Hoven, known professionally as Tess Holliday and formerly known as Tess Munster, is an American model, blogger, and make-up artist based in Los Angeles. I can relate a lot to Tess because she and I are roughly the same size. I think she’s gorgeous. I can also empathize with Tess because she had a really tough life before she found her groove. And I love her attitude. She believes that her health is nobody’s damn business but her own, and she’s not afraid to speak up to that notion. She has written a book called The Not So Subtle Art of Being a Fat Girl: Loving The Skin You’re In, which I indend to read right away now that I know about it.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson is a singer, song writer, and TV personality who rose to fame after winning the first season of American Idol.

“Accusation: Maybe it’s because she was the first winner of American Idol and one of its most successful alumni, but some of the worst weight jabs are aimed at Kelly Clarkson. Whole websites and internet galleries are devoted to mocking the star’s curves (and no, I won’t link to them).Response: The singer maintains her sense of humor, and has said, “I have a curvy figure, which guys like.” She added, “I could die tomorrow. Do I wanna die on a diet? Am I gonna meet God on an empty stomach? Probably not—I’m gonna meet him with some steak and taters in my stomach!” From Shape magazine.

I love Kelly’s music and I love her look. She’s a mom of two and has a demanding career, and yet she looks absolutely adorable.

In Conclusion

These are just a few of the plus size women I know of who are beautiful and successful. They are great role models for an up-and-coming generation of young women who need to see that the generally accepted concept of Thin=Beauty needs to be debunked. Your size does not matter. You can become whatever you want to be. Get out there and show the world that you are a beautiful person, and never conform to someone else’s concept of beauty.
