In the Beginning:

I spent a good share of my life feeling dumpy, conspicuous, and ill prepared for social events. I have always been self-conscious about my weight and my looks. But I never knew where to turn to fix this issue, short of eating nothing but lettuce, exercising until I’m literally dead, and never, ever, leaving the house again!

I found, too, that I was buying all the wrong clothes. Forget about the poor variety and the cost of clothing for plus-size women! The selection was always limited. My wardrobe consisted of plenty of t-shirts and jeans.  However, I had nothing for a party, a job interview, a funeral, or a wedding shower. There was nothing but bits and pieces.   I had a nice blouse, but not the right skirt. There was also a completely correct outfit, but no shoes to wear with it. Or, I would pull out a dress that didn’t fit right, that I had SETTLED FOR when I bought it.  Or I would pull a shirt and pants outfit where the colors clashed just a little. I had a closet full of clothes, and NOTHING TO WEAR! I would stand in front of my closet and be bewildered.  Then I would settle on the best I could put together.  I would go to the function, just KNOWING everyone was judging me on what I wore, and therefore, how fat I was.

The Ah-Hah Moment:

That all changed when I started watching What Not To Wear.  I learned that clothing can make me feel great about the way I look, despite if I lost weight or not. Stacy London and Clinton Kelly taught me how to put together a capsule wardrobe that is suitable for any season, any function, and any situation. I put the things I learned into practice, and life got so much better for me! I could go to my closet, pull a few options out, and have complete outfits that not only fit the occasion, but fit me, and made me feel beautiful.

Pretty soon I started feeling better out going out and socializing. I quit worrying about how I looked, (because now I know I look like a million bucks).  I started focusing on the situation. It has done wonders for my self-esteem and confidence, and has really changed my life, more than I ever realized.

…if I could help just one woman…..

I figure, if I was out there with my issues, there had to be others in the same boat.  There had to be women with a heap of ill-fitting and mismatched clothes and no direction, and giving up because it’s just too hard to look nice.  I was willing to bet there’s gotta be a couple thousand other women, unhappy with their bodies, and equally upset with their expensive pile of useless mismatched outfits. I figure, if I can help just one of these women to feel good about herself, boost her self-esteem, and build her confidence in social situations, then I have accomplished a great deal.

The Body-Positive Movement

As I continued to research plus size clothing and the issues surrounding buying it, I found out more about the body-positive movement, and size inclusivity.  This sent me off into more self-esteem territory and got me looking into “Health at Every Size“.  Next I started to tackle fat-shaming and weight discrimination.  I went from being a girl with a few clothing issues, to a woman with a cause, fighting for the rights of fat people everywhere, and calling attention to social issues that keep us from loving one another, no matter what we look like.

I have found that there are thousands of topics that need to be discusses surrounding large people in general, and large women in particular.  I want to research all of these topics and share what I find, to help change the social norms and get us some peace of mind and some respect.

What I want to accomplish:

The goal for this website, is to help women put together their own set of rules for buying clothing and dressing (a capsule, if you will). These rules must be based solely on their own lives, their tastes, activities, climate, comfort, and social situations. Then we can put together capsule wardrobe that will be budget conscious, beautiful, and functional. Once the capsule concept is in place, this website will show women how and where to buy the outfits and accessories to complete and maintain their capsule wardrobes.  I also want to discuss the plus size clothing industry as a whole, to let big girls know what they are up against while trying to find the clothing they need to take that self-esteem journey.

A Word About This Website:

It has been my dream to do a website or a blog about my journey from being the frumpy dumpy low self-esteem girl to the dressed for success beautiful woman I am today.  But I didn’t know how to do it, or where to start.  I did try a couple years ago, but the only thing I learned was how much I didn’t know about creating a successful blog.

Well, that all changed when I came across Wealthy Affiliate.  They have a fantastic step-by-step, hands-on training program with a whole network of people that help you get up and running.  I got this website up in a matter of weeks and am on the path to making it a great success, thanks to Wealthy Affiliate.  So check them out!  They will help YOUR ideas turn into success!

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

RhondaLeigh
