My Plus Size Outfits – December 14, 2019

Hello to all my plus size girlfriends (and boyfriends too!). This is my second edition photo shoot for my plus size outfits! I have selected a few looks, from more dressy to more casual, all of which I would wear to my office. You can probably wear them to your office with a few modifications.

The Chartreuse Green T-Shirt With Black Skirt and Black Cardigan

I really like this chartreuse T-shirt. One of the “rules” you will see on “What Not To Wear” is to find T-shirts with some detail, instead of the plain old crew neck Fruit-of-the-Loom shirts you buy in a three-pack. This blouse has a flounce at the sleeves, and a square, caged neckline, with beaded string tie.  I bought it off the sale page from Woman Within.  I love the shade of chartreuse that is more muted, and I’m lucky I can wear this color! (I don’t look so great in orange-y red or yellow, for some reason, so you won’t see me in those colors.) Anyway, I love this shirt, that can be dressed up, as you see, with a suit or dressed down with jeans. It also goes great for the hottest days of summer with a pair of white canvas shorts and white mule sandals.

The “suit” isn’t really a suit, but the closest thing I own that could pass as a suit. I confess I don’t own a suit. My office isn’t dressy enough to wear a suit, and I have few opportunities to wear a suit. Why put the money into a suit, if you’re not going to wear it? So in case I’m in dire need of a suit, this combo will suffice.

The cardigan is black, made of the same spandex blend as many of my favorite pieces. It has a little bit of a cut inward at the waist (which doesn’t really show in the picture) that gives me a little hourglass look. I got this MANY years ago at the Walmart in Fort Collins. Not sure of the price, but I do remember that it was the last one left on the rack. It has been a main staple of my closet, and probably one of my most go-to pieces.

The skirt is of jersey material, and has a wide elastic waist for comfort and ease of dressing. It has pockets! The buttons down the front are faux, just there for decoration, but I like that the button placket gives the eye a vertical line. I bought this skirt online at Target in 2013. My daughter was getting married, and I was going to be in Fort Collins for a week, and needed a boat load of outfits for all the lunches and teas and breakfasts that I would be attending. I found this skirt, deemed it “perfect” for what I needed, and bought it in black, navy blue, and light brown. (NOTE: Another “rule” from “What Not To Wear” is not to buy multiples of the same piece. That’s a rule I break, because at my size, when you find something that fits and you love it, why not buy it in every color?) I wear these skirts all summer long, and I love how comfortable they are, but look a little more dressy at the same time.

The Orange Tank Top and Black Jeggings

Orange is one of my favorite colors to wear, so I have several pieces that have orange in them or are totally orange. Makes me think of bright sunshiny mornings! Anyway, this is tank top I got from Jessica London several years ago. I think I got it to wear as an under piece for some other outfit long gone, so it’s pretty old. I wear this tank with a white printed skirt, or white shorts, or with one of my faux button down skirts from above, for a summer look.

For winter, I have paired it with and ivory fine gauge cut away, open front cardigan that I bought at Target off the rack a couple years ago. I have also put on my ivory shirt extender (half slip) because the tank top long ago got too short after so many washings. Those shirt or skirt extenders sure saved my wardrobe, because I got fatter and my shirts got shorter, a bad combo. Rather than replacing a bunch of blouses, I just pop on one of my half slips, and I have a long shirt again.

Jeggings are my go-to pants. I have black and blue stretch denim versions. Here, I’m wearing the black. I got these at Woman Within online last spring. I think at the time, they were having a BOGO sale, so I got them at 50% off. Because they are stretch denim, the black is a little muted, almost like a charcoal color, that isn’t so harsh of a contrast with my lighter top. These go with just about everything in my closet.

The Silky Leaf Pattern Blouse with Black Maxi Skirt

It’s easy to look put-together in this outfit, when all I did was throw it on! The blouse is made of that stretchy silk material blended with spandex, but it drapes like silk and shimmers like silk. It has a pattern of multi-color leaves in purple, wine, and metallic gold. I think I got this blouse at the Laramie Wyoming Walmart around 2010. It has a really dark navy blue background that looks like black, so I wear it with both blue and black neutrals and completer pieces. It is a button down and has elastic 3/4 artist sleeves, making this blouse so versatile! I can wear it buttoned up on its own with a skirt or jeans, or as a completer piece over a solid color tank or t-shirt or cammie. With the blouse, I am wearing the black maxi skirt as a tube top dress. Because I have a “larger than average” chest, wearing the skirt this way gives it a high-low hem line look, which is so trendy right now!. I got the skirt at Amazon two-three years ago, in a two pack with a gray jersey one, at around $36 for the two. Maxi skirts can be worn in so many different ways, and I think every woman should have at least one in her wardrobe. I have three!

Ivory Flower Printed Shirt, Wine Vest, Black Jeggings

This is my favorite picture of the shoot. I love this outfit!

The shirt is one that I got of the $7 sale rack at the Laramie Wyoming Walmart, somewhere around 2010. It’s of a crinkle knit material, and has a really interesting combination of wine, black, and brown print on the ivory background. The brown almost looks like the henna tattoos you see in the far east. The neckline has a little bit of antique looking ivory lace. It’s pretty unique looking, but it can hardly be, since I bought it at Walmart. But I have not seen another shirt like it. It has gotten really short over the years, but I can’t bear to get rid of it, because I love it too much. Because the shirt is short, I have added a black half slip shirt extender. This one is plain stretchy silk-like material without any lace. I like the line it creates, hiding my big apron belly but not taking away from the interesting print of the shirt. I have also added my wine fly away vest, which I got at Amazon a few years ago. They had them in every color imaginable, so I got wine, teal, and light brown.

And this is all paired with my black stretch denim leggings that I described above.

Graphic Black T-Shirt With Colorful Tribal Patterned Maxi Skirt

This is my Casual Friday look for the week. And I know you’re going to DISS me for this one! “What Not To Wear” says you should never wear pajamas in public. The graphic T (which reads “No Coffee No Talkie”) is really a nightgown! So bring it on, give me a hard time for this one, But please understand this: Graphic T-shirts are all the rage right now, very much on trend, but I can’t find a tunic-length one to save my soul. I came across this one on the clearance page online at Lane Bryant. So if you can hear me out there, retailers, get us some tunic length graphic T-shirts! They will sell like hot cakes!

Anyway, I love this shirt. I wear it with leggings or capris, with a variety of completer pieces. It’s jersey, so it’s comfortable, and fun, and goes for any season.

I have matched it up with my tribal print maxi skirt that has all my favorite colors in it. It goes really great with that orange tank or that chartreuse T-shirt I described above. I have paired it also with my white mules that look like Keds sneakers. I have also worn this with white or beige sandals. It’s a fun summer skirt that can be worn as a tube top dress with a bunch of different completer pieces, but it can easily go for fall and winter, by pairing it with a bulky sweater and boots. I got this at Amazon last year for around $25.
